The Department of State Services (DSS) has been ordered by Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja federal high court to allow Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to change his clothes.
Nyako issued the order after Kanu's main attorney, Mike Ozekhome, alerted her to his client's alleged mistreatment while in DSS custody.
According to Ozekhome, Kanu is still being held in solitary confinement, and convicts who greeted him were likewise subjected to the same treatment.
He went on to say that this is in violation of Justice Nyako's order to the DSS that the IPOB leader be allowed to practise his faith, bathe, change his clothes, and eat properly.
Justice Nyako informed Kanu's counsel that a detention facility is not a five-star hotel, reiterating her prior ruling that the IPOB leader be afforded the most comfort possible, including the ability to change his Fendi suit with which he was brought back into the country in June 2021.
She added;
“I don’t want to see him in these clothes again. This one is almost off-white. Also, make sure that you allow him to exercise.”
