Six further deaths and 163 new illnesses have been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) throughout 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
On Wednesday, the NCDC announced this on its Facebook page, saying that Nigeria's infection toll has risen to 251,341, while the death toll has risen to 3,116 from 3,110 reported 24 hours earlier, when seven people died.
FCT was responsible for four of the six fatalities, with one death each on December 18, 26, and 30, 2021 and January 12, 2022, according to the disease centre.
According to data on the NCDC website as of Tuesday, 23,439 Nigerians are infected with the virus countrywide, with 224,939 discharged patients, including community discharges, as the FCT reported 199 discharged cases.
According to the NCDC data, Lagos State, the disease's epicentre, topped the infection chart with 59 cases, followed by the FCT with 33 infections.
Delta State had 16 cases, Kaduna had 13, Gombe had 12, and Osun had 12.
While Ogun State reported four cases, Ekiti, Oyo, and Rivers States each reported three cases, and Borno and Imo States each reported two.
With a single case, Nasarawa was last on the list, while the NCDC observed that three states, Bauchi, Plateau, and Sokoto, reported no cases on Tuesday.
