A 30-year-old lady has been detained by the Zamfara State Police Command for allegedly supplying rifles and ammunition to bandits in the Northwest zone of the state .On Friday, Gusau's Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba N. Elkana, paraded the lady, Fatima Lawali, who is from the Kaura-namoda Local Government Area of the state. She was detained on Thursday, October 25 at approximately 9.30 p.m.
Tactical police officers from the command and FIB/STS, commanded by DSP Hussaini Gimba on Tactical Operations in the state, detained Fatima Lawali, F, from K/Namoda LGA of Zamfara State on October 25th 2021 at around 0930hrs."
The bandits of Niger, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Katsina relied on the guns and ammunition supplied by Fatima.
Ado Alero, a renowned bandit lord who has terrorized the neighboring states of Zamfara and Sokoto, was on the receiving end of 991 rounds of live gunfire from the suspect, who was captured in the Gada Biyu region of Bungudu LGA."
Tactical actions were then carried out in other bandit strongholds in different parts of the state after the lady and other suspects were interrogated, according to the commissioner.
Some of the robbers were killed in a fierce gun battle, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds after the operations.
Ten AK-47 weapons with 143 rounds of live ammo were found at the site, according to a statement from commissioner.
Other charges include rape, criminal conspiracy, livestock theft, and illegal firearm possession. Seven persons were detained during the raids.
To Governor Bello Matawalle, the commissioner commended him for his continuing support and cooperation in the battle against banditry and other criminal activity.
