Imo attack: Machete-wielding gunmen savagely assault a Divisional Police Officer, kill an ASP, and torch a police station and several vehicles in Imo, Nigeria.

Matchete wounds were inflicted on the head of the Divisional Police Officer in the Arondizuogu police headquarters in Imo State's Ideato North Local Government Area.

Gunmen stormed the police station about 2am Monday and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police, according to reports from SaharaReporters.

A police car and the DPO's SUV were also set on fire by the attackers.

State Police Commissioner Hussain Rabiu is on his way to the neighborhood to inspect the devastation done by the rampaging gunmen, according to reports from high-ranking officials.

At Arondizuogu, Ideato North, Imo State, the DPO was assaulted and matched on his head, and an ASP was shot dead. The police station and the DPO's personal Lexus Jeep, as well as the police Sienna, were completely destroyed in the fire. All of them were destroyed. According to one source, the CP is on his way to the location.

Confirmation came from Michael Abattam, a spokesman for the state police.

During an ambush on soldiers in Awo Mmamma in Oru East Local Government Area on Monday, a military officer was slain by gunmen.
