A consulting engineering firm that had previously worked on the fallen Ikoyi building ceased operations a year earlier due to its inability to guarantee the building's integrity.

The engineering firm that was previously working on the collapsed Ikoyi building stopped its consultancy service a year ago because it couldn't guarantee the structure's integrity.

The firm that started work on the Gerrard Terrace skyscraper in Ikoyi, Lagos, before it collapsed, Prowess Engineering Limited pulled out of the project in February 2020.

Prowess Engineering Limited withdrew from the Gerrard Terraces project in February 2020, according to a letter written to Fourscore Heights Limited. The engineering firm stated that it no longer shared the same vision as its client.

Prowess Engineering Limited said it could guarantee the integrity of the first two buildings it built for Fourscore Heights Limited, but not the third building from anything above the fourth storey.

The third structure, which collapsed on November 1st, was the one that ended up crumbling.

"This letter is to formally advise you of the withdrawal of our structural consultant service from the above specified project," Prowess Engineering Limited wrote in a letter. We came to this conclusion because we no longer share the same vision as you, our client, in terms of how the project is being carried out.

"We can guarantee the integrity of the first two buildings, as well as work done up to the fourth story of the third building under our supervision, as long as the concrete strength standards are met." We have no control over this because we do not yet know the concrete cube test results at each step of the construction. Also, please keep in mind that we are not responsible for any other building faults that may have occurred throughout the course of the job.

"Furthermore, we request that our company's name and logo be removed from the project board, as well as notification of our withdrawal from the project to the appropriate approving agencies."

"We regret this choice and the missed potential to work together in the future." We look forward to working together on other projects in the future."
